Your questions answered

What is financial coaching?

Financial (or money) coaching is all about improving your financial wellbeing - building financial confidence, changing behaviours and empowering you to make your own decisions around money.

It could be about exploring ways to understand and improve your emotional relationship with money. Or it could focus on more practical activities such as spending and savings plans, developing a knowledge of personal financial products or making the most of salary/pay rises.

The output of financial coaching is about creating a positive and lasting change around your finances.

How do I know if financial coaching is for me?

If you find yourself thinking or are anxious about your money / finances a lot then financial coaching may benefit you. Maybe you are someone that

  • Doesn't feel like they are in full control of their finances - living pay day to pay day or is earning a good salary but doesn't have much to show for it.

  • Is in debt and wants help to tackle this and even start saving

  • Spends money on things you don't need/want

  • Is good with money but struggles to justify spending it

  • Disagree or argue with your partner about money

  • Would like to improve your financial confidence

If you've answered 'YES' to any of the above then financial coaching could be right for you and the best investment you ever make.

Why a financial coach instead of a financial advisor?

A financial advisor is usually helpful for individuals who already have enough financial assets and want help with financial investments/savings and retirement options.

A financial coach is about improving your financial wellbeing and empowering you to create a positive and lasting change around your finances. To most it is life changing.

How long does financial coaching last?

This will vary depending on your circumstances. If you only have a very specific issue you would like help with then it maybe just 3 sessions, usually spread over 2 months. If a more comprehensive approach is required then it maybe 9 sessions spread over 6 months. Some clients like to continue in the long term with quarterly or half yearly check in sessions.

How do the meetings work?

Nearly all coaching sessions take place via Teams or Zoom. If you are local to Brighton, it maybe possible to meet in person.

Are you supervised?

I employ the services of a coaching supervisor. I also maintain my continuous professional development through my additional training with the ILM
